October 15-23 is National Fair Food Week, and Food Fairness Illawarra, with support from Wollongong, Shellharbour and Kiama Councils are partnering to bring you a local event to celebrate Fair Food in the Illawarra!

Local interest is growing in a fairer food system with a number of new and innovative grassroots initiatives developing in the Illawarra. This evening event aims to connect and celebrate our local fair food community, showcase projects addressing food security, sustainable agriculture and sustainable food systems, and expand conversations about fair food. Come along to enjoy local food, connect with other foodies and celebrate the food our region has to offer. There will be a range of local speakers, expo stalls, a Fair Food community notice board & lots of time to mingle.

Local speakers include:

- Emma Huber from Sandy Goodwich
- Sarah Anderson from Popes produce
- Mahlah Grey from The Pines Dairy
- Ann Burbrook from Fair Food Forager
- Kiama Community Garden
- Karen TavernSmith from Food Fairness Illawarra

- Kiama Farmers Market 

With more to be announced….

>> Everyone is invited to contribute a poster to the Fair Food community notice board, to showcase Fair Food projects.

Connecting over Fair Food is a free event with a “Pay As You Feel” opportunity at the door. All donations will be used for future Food Fairness Illawarra events to fuel the Fair Food conversation!

The screening will be followed with a hearty soup for lunch and discussion. BYO mug and spoon. Gold coin donation for lunch.

Help FFI celebrate our 10th birthday by heading along to the film.

All over Australia, thousands of women and men are working for a better food and farming system. They are Australia’s Fair Food Pioneers. Their stories need to be shared – Fair Food Documentary is a series of passionate interviews looking at issues in our system and the movement around the positive steps we can take to heal our food system. The film is a joining of forces of food and creative communities- with a shared voice stating “food matters to us all!!”

On the night will also be the launch of Fair Food Forager!!

Australia’s Fair Food Week shines a light on our new story of food.

Over the week — 16-25 October 2015 — you will discover events across the country that will attract, intrigue and entertain you:

Let’s put food sovereignty on the Australian table so farmers can keep farming… so that young people will feel encouraged to go into farming… and so that family farmers around the world know that we are acting for their sovereignty.

It’s time to shine the light on the new story of fair food flourishing across Australia.
