SUMMARY:FOODTALKS Illawarra
DESCRIPTION:Are you interested in the local food system in the Illawarra? \nCome along to meet other growers\, producers\, advocates\, culture guides\, picklers\, bakers\, retailers\, chefs and home cooks who share a passion for delicious\, fair food in our region. \nFOODTALKS Illawarra’s first ever event will be in the garden (or shed) at Saltbush Corner in Bulli to chat\, eat and listen to two local superheroes – Berbel Franse and Sarah Anderson – talk about their thoughts on the food system in the Illawarra and beyond. \n  \nSpeakers \nBerbel Franse – Program Manager\, Healthy Cities Illawarra / Food Fairness Illawarra \nBerbel is a passionate advocate for a fairer\, more resilient and sustainable food system. With a background in Supply Chain Management and Masters in Sustainability Science\, she is Program Manager (Food Security & Food Sustainability) with Healthy Cities Illawarra\, coordinator of Food Fairness Illawarra\, founder of Hidden Harvest and driver behind the Wollongong Online Farmers Market. \nSarah Anderson – Market Gardener and Educator\, Popes Produce \nSarah is the founder and head gardener of Popes Produce. She comes from a background of organic food retail\, visual arts and hospitality these skills are readily blended to encourage people to enjoy fresh happy food. At its core\, Popes Produce is a small urban market garden tucked away in a family backyard demonstrating (very) small scale food production. Emphasis is placed on how to nurture the edible garden and biodiversity required to nourish us\, whilst enjoying the ride and having fun. Pretty much active edible creative play. \n  \nFood + Drink \nA simple vegetarian soup made from local produce and some homemade bread will be served. If you have particular food preferences or requirements please feel free bring your own food along. \nBring a bottle of something tasty to share! \n  \nWhile FFI takes every reasonable effort to ensure that information is correct at the time of publication\, we recommend that the individual confirm details with the event organiser\, as events can be subject to last minute changes. \n
