DESCRIPTION:Are you fascinated by the art of beekeeping and keen to gain the skills required to start your own hive?\n\nIn this full day workshop\, Claire Brown from Flametree Beekepers will give you the knowledge and skills required to get you started as a backyard beekeeper.\n\nThe workshop will include a morning of theory and\, weather permitting\, an afternoon of hands-on\, practical learning at our display hive. Specifically\, your workshop will include:\n\nTheory –\n-The life cycle of bees\n-The roles of different bees in the hive\n-Obtaining beehives\n-Ideal hive placement\n-Hive types and their characteristics\n-Bee diseases – how to spot them\n-Swarming\n\nPractical –\n-Inspecting a beehive\n-Managing your space\n-Finding evidence of a queen bee\n-Essential beekeeping resources\n-Brood management\n-Extracting honey\n\nThis workshop will build on the topics covered in the Intro to Beekeeping workshop\, however you do NOT have to complete the intro workshop in order to book into the In depth workshop.\n\n\n\n\nURBAN AGRICULTURE MONTH\nUrban Agriculture Month (UAM) is co-ordinated yearly by Sustain: The Australian Food Network\, a think and do network connecting passionate people like you to build tangible change.
