SUMMARY:Connecting Over Fair Food
DESCRIPTION:Online community building event & film screening\nLet’s celebrate Food Fairness Illawarra’s 15th birthday\, World Food Day and Global Climate Change Week! \nJoin us for an inspiring\, encouraging and nourishing evening among other fair food champions. Together we will explore how we can make our food systems more sustainable\, stronger and resilient to shocks\, supporting biodiversity and combating climate change. \nThe evening will feature a panel discussion between Kylie Flament from Green Connect\,  Aunty Trish Levett and Serenity Hill from Open Food Network\, followed by a screening of The Biggest Little Farm. \nFeaturing breathtaking cinematography\, The Biggest Little Farm explores the challenges and learning curves of one couple’s journey in regenerative farming. Please note the film contains scenes of evacuation due to wildfires\, and the death of animals. The film is rated PG\, and the Australian Council on Children and the Media recommends the film is not suitable for viewing by children under 8 years of age. \nCelebrate over local food\nTraditionally we cater these events with delicious local food sourced from around the Illawarra. Due to the virtual setting this year\, we’re encouraging participants to visit the local food and ethical shopping directory on the Food Fairness Illawarra website and gather local snacks and drinks to enjoy on the night. \nContribute as you can\nAll donations are an investment in Food Fairness Illawarra’s collaborative work towards a more sustainable\, stronger and resilient local food system (incl. events like this). \nQuote from last years’ Connecting Over fair Food\n“I liked the bringing together of passionate community members and groups. The range of speakers demonstrated the breadth of action that is happening in this area in our region.” \nPartnerships for the goals\nThis event is organised by Food Fairness Illawarra\, with support from Shellharbour City Council\, Wollongong City Council\, Kiama Municipal Council\, Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District\, University of Wollongong and Healthy Cities Illawarra. \nAchieving Sustainable Development Goal 2: Zero Hunger is more than just addressing hunger and the responsibility doesn’t only lie with governments. We all have a role to play\, from making food choices that improve both our health and that of our food system\, to not letting sustainable habits fall by the wayside. There are many opportunities to get involved in changing the food system together\, so we look forward to connecting with you and embracing our actions as our future.
