SUMMARY:Saving Our Food Online Event - UNSW
DESCRIPTION:How wasted food has become a lead weight in the global fight against climate change.\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout this event\n\n\nWe all love food\, but the ways we grow\, make\, sell and consume it causes a scandalous amount of waste. The land footprint used to grow this wasted food every year occupies an area the size of Canada and India combined. Food waste also uses vast quantities of water and is linked to 8-11% of global greenhouse gas emissions. \nIn response\, the UN has called for food waste to be halved by 2030\, and as a country that makes a lot of food – we export about 70% of our agricultural output – Australia has a considerable role to play. Australia started its response to this challenge with the release of the National Food Waste Strategy in 2017. \nJoin pioneering global expert on wasted food\, Christian Reynolds\, in conversation with UNSW’s Chris McElwain\, as they explain why we waste so much food and discuss the twin challenges of saving more food and safely managing the food we cannot avoid wasting. \nDigital Event\nCan’t tune in to the event? Register to receive the on demand recording. \nAbout Digital Events\nThis digital event will be available on the UNSW Centre for Ideas website\, Facebook\, and the UNSW YouTube channel. Closed captions will be available on each platform. \nA link to watch the event will be sent on the day of the event to registered attendees. \n“While FFI takes every reasonable effort to ensure that information is correct at the time of publication\, we recommend that the individual confirm details with the event organiser\, as events can be subject to last minute changes.”

SUMMARY:Solidarity Session #19 -An eater's guide to Community Supported Agriculture
DESCRIPTION:The Australian Food Sovereignty Alliance’s Solidarity Sessions are back for 2022 – as we continue to connect online and build solidarity across the corners of this vast country. \nThe constant stream of climate change induced natural disasters\, and the ongoing impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the industrialised food supply chains\, has demonstrated the urgent need for localised food economies\, short supply chains\, and paying a fair price for food. \nLuckily for us\, one of the food sovereignty solutions is Community Supported Agriculture (CSA). \nIn this roundtable discussion you will hear from CSA members\, and farmers who run a CSA program and learn: What is it? Why is important to food sovereignty? How can you enact food sovereignty by becoming a member of a CSA? What are some of the bumps you may encounter along the way? \nJoin us online for a feast for the ears. We’ve added an extra half hour for questions on the finer details of starting or joining a CSA. \nWednesday 23rd February \n7:30 – 9PM (AEDT – Syd/Melb/Hobart) \n
