DESCRIPTION:From the soil up\, this step-by-step workshop ensures everyone leaves with the core skills\, knowledge and confidence to grow an abundant edible garden on a balcony\, in a backyard or over a whole property. \nWe’ll show you around our 11 acre award-winning urban permaculture farm so you can see how we do it\, and our immersive practical workshop\, facilitated by expert permaculturalist Cal Champagne\, will empower you to start growing your own fresh food straight way. \nThis hands-on workshop will teach you: \n\nHow vegetables and herbs grow.\nHow we can help vegetables and herbs grow without any chemical inputs.\nTools and techniques for producing abundant crops.\nHow to build healthy soils through composting\, no-dig gardening\, and other soil preparation techniques.\nSystems for designing crop rotation plans\, and planting plans which follow the seasons.\nHow to transplant seedlings or directly sow seeds into your prepared garden areas.\nHow to prevent\, look for and control pests and diseases that could impact your crops using natural methods.\nHow to fertilise\, irrigate and harvest your produce.\n\nIncluded: \n\nA veggie garden starter kit of seedlings.\nA tour of Green Connect’s award-winning urban permaculture farm.\nDetailed course notes\, including a recommended reading list.\n\nMorning tea and lunch will be provided \nBefore you book your ticket\, please consider the following: \n\nPlants love rain and so do we! We don’t cancel workshops because of rain – we will only cancel if there is a severe storm forecast. Please come prepared for the weather conditions.\nThe site is a working farm – all visitors will be given a brief safety induction upon arrival.\nThe terrain at the farm is steep and can be slippery in parts. Though the workshop will take place primarily within our accessible education hub\, there is a possibility that participants will be required to walk across uneven or sloping ground. If you have mobility restrictions or any concerns about your ability to navigate the terrain\, please contact us before booking.\nAllergen advice: Our farm is home to domestic animals as well as bees\, wasps\, and macadamia trees. Please pack an EpiPen if allergic and keep it with you while on site.\n\nAll workshop participants must: \n\nWear enclosed shoes or boots (no thongs or sandals) and clothes you don’t mind getting dirty.
