SUMMARY:Public Health Advocacy - University of Canberra
DESCRIPTION:Organised by the University of Canberra (https://www.canberra.edu.au\, +61 2 6201 5111) \nIn collaboration with the Public Health Advocacy Institute of Australia at Curtin University\, the aim of this short course is to share ideas as to the most effective methods of conducting public health advocacy. Designed to build the skill base and confidence of academics\, public servants and other public health professionals\, this course is for those who wish to bring about improvements in public health through effective advocacy. \nPublic health advocacy may be defined as the deliberate process of using knowledge and evidence to support or argue in favour of a cause\, policy or idea in order to influence decision makers and public opinion to deliver better population health outcomes. \nThe most apparent advocacy practice is to influence politicians and bureaucrats\, in the traditional and social media and to influence powerful stakeholder groups. However\, advocacy does not sit in isolation. Public health advocates work towards healthier individuals and communities with the intent of leaving no one behind. \nJohns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health summarises public health as not just about “Protecting Health\, Saving Lives”\, but doing so “Millions at a Time” (Johns Hopkins\, 2020). \nEnrolments close 25th of March \n“While FFI takes every reasonable effort to ensure that information is correct at the time of publication\, we recommend that the individual confirm details with the event organiser\, as events can be subject to last minute changes.”
