SUMMARY:Friday Forum #9: Building a more sustainable\, resilient\, and local food system.
DESCRIPTION:Our food system is under great pressure from climate change and natural disaster-related supply chain disruptions. Making matters worse\, the impacts of the Ukraine-Russia war\, are sending food prices to record levels that will push even more people into food insecurity. \nThese complex and systemic challenges require proactive and intersectoral action\, but where do we start? \nJoin subject matter experts and advocates\, Dr Amy Carrad and Berbel Franse to explore how we can build a more sustainable\, resilient\, equitable and local food system here in the Illawarra. \nAmy will draw on the findings of recent research exploring the role of Australian local governments and civil society groups in creating healthy\, sustainable\, and equitable food systems. Berbel will respond to this big question from her perspective as the Coordinator of community coalition\, Food Fairness Illawarra\, and driver behind the recently launched Wollongong Online Farmers Market. \nRegister Now!

SUMMARY:Opening Night // Art of Food Waste
DESCRIPTION:Join Wollongong’s food waste legends Hidden Harvest for the opening night of our annual community art extravaganza: the Art of Food Waste!\n\nWe believe that food waste doesn’t need to be a big scary issue: everyone eats so everyone has an opportunity to make an impact. Join Hidden Harvest as we leave our kitchens to play with food in a whole new context: Project Contemporary Gallery.\n\nCurated by the wonderful Xanthe Barker\, we’ve invited our local art community to chew on the theme of food waste and cook up something arty in their preferred mediums- and the results are delicious!\n\n ARTISTS\nAngelic Graft // Brooke Taylor // Clare O’Toole // Don Poo-leone // Erin Mison // Enuka Paulo // Ian Bool // Leah Ann Early // Paige Mandy // Nicci Bedson // Tim Barker // Rochelle Morris // Shan McLoughlin\n\n ENTRY BY DONATION\nEntry to the Opening Night of Art of Food Waste is by donation on the door! All funds raised go towards supporting our future events and initiatives.\n\n GOURMET TOASTIES\nHidden Harvest’s art happens in the kitchen: we transform would-be wasted produce into gourmet toasties for your eating pleasure.
