Stanwell Park Eco Centre (SPEC), Community Garden Project

Stanwell Park Eco Centre (SPEC) was founded in June 2020 by Allison Tomazin in response to her witnessing the increasing fragility of our food supply chains. With community job insecurity and the pressures of social isolation thrown into the mix, Allison felt the need to start something that would inspire her local community to engage more with fair food practices and learn how to be self-sufficient and resilient within a sustainable food system.

Green House Park Community Garden

The Greenhouse Park Community Garden was established in 2013 to educate volunteers on growing their own food. It is run by Wollongong Council and is maintained by Greenhouse Park volunteers who are dedicated to the protection and enhancement of the remnant salt marsh of the Tom Thumb Lagoon and the Green Bell Frog Ponds and Community Gardens. The garden is based on a permaculture model and allows volunteers to take home some good quality produce to eat.
