Cooking from scratch

Cooking from scratch means to prepare meals from ingredients found in their natural state. This includes things like baking bread, making pasta, preserving, pickling and making sauces and condiments. Cooking from scratch gives us a complete understanding of what we eat. For example, if you make a pasta sauce from fresh tomatoes, onions and herbs – you can avoid adding any extra oil, sugar or salt that you may find in a jar of pasta sauce. While it can take more time, transforming natural ingredients into wholesome meals is an enriching way to cook and gives us control over what and how we eat.
