Eating less highly processed food

Processed food is any food that has been changed from its natural state through methods like washing, cutting, canning, freezing, baking, cooking or adding ingredients. There are many types of food processing and some are healthier than others. Minimally processed foods like tinned lentils, frozen berries, or pre-cut salads are convenient and can be a part of a healthy and balanced diet. If we want to eat well, highly processed foods such as frozen pizza, potato chips, sugary cereals and frozen desserts which contain large amounts of added salts, sugars, fats or preservatives should be consumed only occasionally.
