Growing with Kids
Growing with kids provides the opportunity to teach them where food comes from, as well as encourages taste testing, spending more time outdoors and a lesson in patience.
You don’t need a lot of space to start growing food with kids. Edible gardens can be planted anywhere from a balcony or backyard to your local community or school garden.
Kids like to see the results of their efforts, therefore, to keep them engaged plant crops that grow quickly and/or produce heavy crops. Connecting gardening with cooking by creating gardens with meals in mind is one way of engaging kids.
Visiting a farm, such as Green Connect, Mountain Range, Buena Vista Farm or Glenbernie Orchard are another great way to introduce kids to how food is grown in the Illawarra.
