Understanding basic nutrition

You don’t need to be a scientist to gain a basic understanding of healthy eating. Being able to identify which foods contain high amounts of sugar, fat and salt and which foods have healthy vitamins, minerals and fibre – allows us to make informed choices about what we eat and is a simple first step towards eating well. This understanding can be used at all levels of our food consumption – from how we shop and cook, to take away foods and what we choose when dining out. There are many resources like The Australian Guide to Healthy Eating, which can help us make informed food choices.
