What’s Been Happening Behind the Scenes with the Food Hub Project
It’s been a busy few months for the Food Hub team, and we’re excited to share some of the great work happening in the background.
We’ve been building the foundations in developing two major documents that will set the direction for the project moving forward: the Feasibility Case, exploring why the Food Hub is needed and the Business Case which outlines how we plan to deliver the Hub and the benefits it will bring to our region.
Together, these documents will help our partners and stakeholders jump on board and support this important initiative.
Food Hub Site Visits
To learn from the best, we’ve been out on the road meeting with organisations already doing incredible work in food rescue and food relief.
Our journey took us to Sydney to visit OzHarvest and SecondBite—two remarkable organisations with more than twenty years of experience in creating impact. Their insights have been invaluable as we shape a model that works for the Illawarra.
We were also invited by Katrina Pawley , CEO of Albury Wodonga Regional FoodShare, to tour their warehousing, offices, and community pantry. Our visit happened to coincide with the aftermath of the recent bushfires in the region. Seeing firsthand how the community rallies and the overwhelming donations that poured in, was a powerful reminder of how essential food relief services are in times of crisis.
Coming Soon – Food Hub Website Launch
We’re thrilled to share that the Food Hub is about to get its very own home online! Soon, you’ll find a dedicated page on the Food Fairness Illawarra website.
This isn’t just another webpage, it’s the front door to one of the region’s most forward-thinking, community driven projects. It will be the go-to place for anyone wanting to stay connected, get involved, or understand how their support is driving real, tangible impact.
The new page will feature updates on the project, key milestones and community impact stories along with important information for organisations keen to join the movement
There’s even more on the horizon, as we work toward bringing the Illawarra Food Hub to life. Stay tuned for more updates, behind-the-scenes moments, and exciting milestones.
