The food system is facing a period of sustained and rapid change, in part, driven by bold frontiers in food research, advances in food and other technologies, and social and economic factors.

What our foods and food systems look like in the future could be a distinct shift from what we’ve seen in the past. This will impact the food industry, governments and the consumer in various ways. Preparing for this change now will help to build resilience and ensure system sustainability into the future.

On June 1 2021, FSANZ will host and facilitate via webinar, an expert panel discussion on ‘Future Foods’. The webinar will explore the emergence of disruptive food production technologies, associated challenges and opportunities and potential implications for the food regulatory system.

The webinar will explore three key aspects of food innovation:

1. Drivers of change – scientific capability, social and economic values, health and nutrition, environmental.

2. Disruptive technologies – what is our ‘now’ technology and what’s coming in future?

3. Food system preparedness – How does the food system prepare and respond to change?
